Ofcom is inviting those working in the industries it regulates, as well as members of the public, to contribute to its work plan and priorities for the next financial year.

The ‘Invitation to Comment’ is calling on anyone with an interest in Ofcom’s activities to offer their views on which areas of the telecoms, media, postal and spectrum industries should be addressed in its annual plan for 2014/15.

Ofcom’s current strategic purposes are to:

• Maintain audience confidence in broadcast content
• Protect consumers from harm
• Promote effective competition and informed choice
• Contribute to and implement public policy defined by Parliament
• Secure optimal use of spectrum

One of Ofcom’s main focuses over the past year has been the 4G auction, which led to a number of high-profile disputes and the £2.3 billion sale of spectrum to five mobile operators in the UK.

The regulator’s current annual plan, for the year 2013/14, can be viewed here.

Ofcom will consult on responses from the public and stakeholders in December and expects to publish its final plan in March 2014.

Those interested in submitting their views have until 5pm on 24 October 2013.
