A contract worth around £2 million is up for tender to supply WiFi access on buses and trams in the Edinburgh area.

Lothian Buses plc is putting out a five-year contract to connect a fleet of 740 buses and trams.

The work is made up of three lots, including both the supply and installation of WiFi equipment that can support up to 240 users on larger trams.

The hardware must be able to use GSM/EDGE, EV-DO Rev A, 3G UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+, 4G LTE, Ethernet and WiFi networking technologies.

The other lot covers 4G WiFi connectivity, to provide passengers with fast web access, including the transfer of bus and tram information.
