Unitary authority Wrexham council is to introduce electronic document management (EDM) and automated workflow technology to its revenue and benefits department in a move part-funded by the Department of Work and Pensions.
Wrexham council has awarded a £200,000 contract to Civica to implement the scheme, which will be rolled out to 70 revenue and benefits staff. The council is seeking faster turnaround times for benefit claims and enable better information management.
The EDM and workflow system will be integrated with the council’s existing Anite Pericles revenues and benefits system and is expected to go live at the beginning of March. If the project is successful, the council plans to extend the EDM and workflow system to other service areas.
Dave Hylands, chief information systems officer at Wrexham council, said: “To ensure that Wrexham is on track to meet the government’s efficiency agenda targets, it was important that we streamlined our existing revenues and benefits processes with a future-proof imaging and workflow system.”
