Tunbridge Wells council is distributing free PayPoint cards to allow residents to pay their council tax electronically.

Council tax payers will be able to use PayPoint terminals at any post office or other outlet displaying the PayPoint sign to pay their council tax bills – whether in Tunbridge Wells or elsewhere across the country.

Cardholders will not be charged for making the payment charge made to the cardholder for processing payments.

Cllr Len Horwood, portfolio holder for finance, said: ‘This is a great service and we are sending out the cards free of charge to all those who do not pay their council tax by direct debit.

“The reason for the council joining this scheme is to make life easier for local people. Some PayPoint outlets are open for long hours and if you’re on holiday in the UK you can pay your council tax without having to make any special arrangements.”

Tunbridge Wells falls within the Kent county council area, where 100,000 recipients of social care services now select and pay for their own services electronically using smartcards issued by the county council.
