Thomas Cook has signed a multi-million-pound contract with IT services company Atos Origin to provide the tour operator's mainframe services for five years.
The deal will see Thomas Cook using Atos Origin’s European mainframe hub, a new high-security datacentre in Essen, Germany, to provide data processing services for customers worldwide.
Reinhard Eschbach, Thomas Cook's CIO, said: "The systems on which we run the bookings are the foundation of our business. Atos Origin can offer us a comprehensive service in this area."
The contract comes only two months after Thomas Cook extended a business process outsourcing deal with another service provider, Accenture, by 10 years, paying £130m for the privilege. That contract covers application, network and infrastructure management, finance, accounting and human resources services at the Thomas Cook, which has 33,000 employees.
