Societe Generale has partnered with Atos Origin to launch a new iPhone app for its mobile banking services.
Atos Worldline, the part of Atos Origin that specialises in electronic payment services, has developed and is hosting a complete mobile application for the French bank. The application has eight functions including account checking, stock market access, budget management, currency conversion and geolocation of branches.
Societe Generale was the first French bank to launch a mobile website fully designed for the iPhone on March 2008, and was driven to invest in the new mobile solution due to its success.
“This mobile website has been a significant success, with almost 140,000 clients using it each month. This led us to look into the emergence of mobile applications and how we could use them to go even further. This new application facilitates browsing and usage. It also provides more freedom in terms of developments to offer our clients.”
The bank launched its ‘Appli’ on the iPhone and iPod Touch last month, and plans to adapt it for other platforms. It is currently working on an Android version of the application with an aim to release it at the end of 2010.
Last September, Societe Generale replaced a number of existing reporting systems with the MicroStrategy 9 platform in an attempt to slash costs and standardise management information.
