Sun Microsystems is offering fledgling UK businesses discounts on its products and services, after extending its Startup Essentials programme to specific markets outside the US.
Under the programme, selected businesses can buy Sun Fire x64 servers and other servers in its range with CoolThreads technology at a discount, plus some other products. They can also receive free technical advice via email and access to free software such as Apache, MySQL and Perl.
As part of the deal, Sun partners Layered Technologies, NaviSite and NTT Europe will offer discounted web hosting infrastructure.
The programme was first launched in November 2006, and more than 1,300 companies in the US and Asia have applied for membership. It has now been extended to the UK and Israel.
Juan Carlos Soto, VP market development at the vendor, said: "By expanding the programme, we're reaching emerging as well as leading markets that adopt and adapt new technology rapidly, and we're enabling startups to get to market quickly and economically."
