In better news for outsourcer Serco, it has been awarded a contract worth €60 million (£54 million) by the European Parliament to "consolidate and transform" its IT support services.

Serco was recently caught out for overcharging on a UK government contract and faced being struck off from further government work.

Under the six-year European Parliament contract Serco says it will work with its partners to provide support to the European Parliament in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

Serco has been providing a range of support services to the European Parliament since 1998.

Under the new contract, Serco will continue to provide these services and will also deliver front office and back office IT services, as well as central logistic and procurement services.

One key aspect of the new service will be the consolidation of the three current service desks located across two countries into one service desk, said the European Parliament.
