Sainsbury’s Finance has signed a deal with internet security specialist Prevx to offer its banking customers protection from online fraud.

Prevx’s SafeOnline technology helps protect internet users from fraud attacks, such as phishing, DNS poisoning, screen grabbing and keystroke logging.

By joining the Prevx SafeOnline Partner Programme, Sainsbury’s can now offer its customers the Prevx product to its customers to download for free from its banking website. It will protect customers using any other websites, as well as the Sainsbury’s Finance website.

Stuart McKeggie, head of credit cards at Sainsbury’s Finance, said: “We feel we have a duty to ensure people know how to stay safe when servicing their credit card and savings accounts online.

“Maintaining the trust and confidence of our customers is critical.”

The downloadable product is less than 1MB in size, and takes just 10 seconds to download, according to Prevx.

As well as protecting customers from online fraud attacks, the technology can also scan users’ computers to product a report on the status of the computer’s security, and advise customers on how to plug any gaps.

The software can be downloaded onto PCs with any Windows operating system. Prevx is currently developing a version for Apple Macs, which is expected to be available by the end of the year, and a mobile version is also under development.
