RBS 6 Nations has signed a four year deal with Accenture to be its official technology partner, as it pushes for an increased digital focus for the Championships.
Accenture has already been working with RBS 6 Nations for the past two years and the new deal will see it continue to focus on mobile, social media and analytics projects.
For example, Accenture will develop the official RBS 6 Nations mobile app each year up until 2017 as part of the agreement, which will provide fans with access to news updates, video highlights and up-to-the-minute scores and commentary throughout the games.
It will also be using analytics and match data to create match, player and team information, which will help give fans greater insight into each game and will be shared on social media feeds. For instance, fans will be able to learn ahead of matches about conflicts that can be expected to be seen on the pitch.
A tracker will also be created to indicate which players are performing well and how effective substitutions have been.
“Accenture’s technology and digital capabilities are helping bring the RBS 6 Nations to life for rugby fans. We provided the number one sports app during the tournament last year, which was downloaded over 750,000 times by fans in 80 countries,” said Andrew Poppleton, managing director for Accenture’s technology business in the UK & Ireland.
“Accenture is enabling fans to engage more than ever before. Over the next four years, we will further enhance the fans digital experience using tools like data visualisation to show fans things like team of the weekend or positional analysis that has changed the game.”
