Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) is extending its IT current contract with Capita for a further three years to 2017.
NIE owns and manages Northern Ireland’s electricity transmission and distribution networks, transporting electricity to over 840,000 customers and employing around 1,200 employees.
Capita has provided a wide variety of technology services to NIE since 2009, including a service desk, network management, telecoms, hosting, business continuity planning and disaster recovery services. Capita’s application services team also provides development and support for more than 50 applications across the business.
NIE says the extension of the contract ensures continuity of service and supports its ability to provide essential services to NIE staff and customers.
Eddie Byrne, finance director at NIE, said: “The services provided by Capita are extremely important to NIE, as they underpin our key business processes including many of our customer facing operations.
"Our decision to extend the contract was taken in light of the high quality of service which has been consistently provided since 2009, the flexibility demonstrated by Capita during the relationship and the competitive price achieved.”
Crucial projects already delivered through the relationship include the implementation of a new registration and billing system as part of the Electricity Market Opening drive in Northern Ireland.
