Motherwell College has appointed Carillion IT services to install and run integrated data, voice and video system and a wireless network as part of a £70 million redevelopment.

Under a five year contract, Carillion will design, implement and maintain an end-to-end Cisco unified communications infrastructure, to converge data, voice and video over a single wireless network for the college's new purpose-built Ravenscraig campus.

The college, based in Lanarkshire, will decommission disparate voice, data, CCTV and video networks, which were installed and managed separately. As part of the project, Carillion and Cisco have agreed to buy the legacy infrastructure equipment form the college to recycle or dispose of it in line with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.

Hugh Logan, principal and CE of Motherwell College, said the unified communications system will "vastly reduce the college's ongoing maintenance costs".
