Lambeth Learning Futures has signed an eight year ICT managed service deal with Civica to provide technology and support to schools across the London borough, a service which had previously been provided by RM Education.
The deal, worth up to £10.8 million, will see Civica transition services from the incumbent provider to its own managed helpdesk service, which will support approximately 10,000 users and provide a virtual desktop infrastructure at each school.
Core ICT services will be run out of Civica’s data centres, but schools will also be given the choice to purchase additional ‘modules’ including consultancy services on how to make the most of existing school ICT and running an after school ICT club
“Schools are under more pressure than ever to deliver outstanding results whilst cutting costs,” said Lee Burley, managing director of Civica’s education division.
“This new partnership illustrates just how they can do so by joining forces under their local authority to share core ICT services in the cloud.”
He added: “By giving individual schools the opportunity to purchase additional services on top of this, we’re allowing head teachers to take more control over budgets and create unique learning environments.”
Civica has signed similar deals in both Sheffield and Barnsley, where it will now support over 60,000 users in total.
Lambeth has agreed to safeguard employment and conditions for the incumbent IT team, which will be transferred into roles within Civica.
The service will be fully integrated with London Grid for Learning, in order to give students and staff full access to the broadest e-learning content available, and Civica has also agreed to buy back any outdated devices from schools in the area.
