The Home Office has signed major IT services contract extensions with Fujitsu and Atos Origin, claiming it will save £100 million over six years through improved agreements.
It has signed a £330 million contract extension with Fujitsu and a £100 million extension with Atos Origin, both running until 2016.
The two suppliers will provide services to 24,000 IT users in the Home Office and UK Border Agency. Services covered include desktop maintenance, application hosting, and network services and infrastructure.
The new agreements also come after the government tasked the suppliers to achieve cost and efficiency goals. In a project called Extend and Blend , it set a goal for the two suppliers to plan working more closely together in order to offer a more efficient service.
The service delivered will also be part of the Next Generation Information, Systems and Technology Transformation (NGISTT) programme, in which the Home Office demands its own delivery agencies show “greater accountability of achieved value of IT spend” and that the services meet agreed “minimum standards”.
Under NGISTT, the Home Office is also targeting more flexibility and mobile working, better security standards compliance, and sharing and reuse of assets.
Helen Kilpatrick, financial and commercial director general at the Home Office, said that productive contract negotiations had led to the extension agreements being reached “in record time”.
