Hitachi engineers claim to have built the smallest-ever RFID chip. The Japanese company’s new “power” RFID chip measures 0.05mm x 0.05mm, according to various technology blogs.
This one says the new chips are 64 times smaller than the chip previously dubbed the world’s smallest - the 0.4mm x 0.4mm mu-chips.
Hitachi, which expects to start selling the technology within three years, said the chips are small enough to be embedded into paper, and therefore could be used to combat counterfeiting in currency or admission tickets.
