Gloucestershire County Council plans to achieve savings or £60 million over the next four years from an overhaul programme with IT consultants Capgemini.

The council has already commenced the transformation programme, called ‘Building our Future’, which aims to improve efficiency across all departments, eliminate waste and bureaucracy, and put greater focus on improved customer services.

A further £43 million in efficiency savings were delivered by the council over the last three years.

A roll out of a council-wide IT system in January 2008, conducted by Capgemini, has seen Gloucestershire secure a further £5 million in annual savings.

Peter Bungard, CEO of Gloucestershire County Council, said: "Our new IT system provides a springboard for change by improving communications across the council, by giving staff the consistent and timely information they need for decision-making, and by allowing us to explore in detail a number of money-saving scenarios."

The council will work with Capgemini to "drive out further significant efficiencies", said Bungard.
