West Lancashire council has launched an online service for tenants who want to swap their council or housing association property.
The Mutual Exchange Scheme website allows people who want to move to a new area or need a more suitable or different sized home to swap properties with another tenant.
The service is aimed at making the process of organising a move quicker and more efficient for tenants, allowing them to browse the available properties and using an online request form to make contact with other tenants to discuss the possibility of a swap.
West Lancashire’s portfolio holder for housing, Cllr David Westley said: “Our Mutual Exchange Scheme is extremely popular so we thought we would take the headache out of a possible house swap by adding this to our growing list of things that you can do online.”
Recent research by West Lancashire council found that the number of people who preferred to contact the authority via the web had risen from 6% to 20%.
