COOK, the "high quality" frozen ready-meals manufacturer and retailer, has selected QlikView to provide insight into customer buying trends, inventory and margins during the festive period.
COOK's ready-meals and puddings are hand-prepared in its kitchen in Kent and sold through its 78 own branded shops, website and independent retailers with COOK concessions.
The QlikView Christmas Stock Tracker App, developed with the help of Qlik partner Informance, will enable COOK’s food, production and retail teams to make key decisions, by providing them with timely and relevant information about inventory and stock, enabling them to better anticipate demand and advise production teams.
As COOK is both a retailer and manufacturer, keeping a close eye on the relationship between sales and stock is crucial to the company’s success. Stock that is selling well needs to be scheduled for production, while surplus stock needs discounting. Whereas the company had previously relied on spreadsheets, meaning that making these decisions could take days, QlikView provides COOK with complete visibility across the business as a whole, pulling in data stored in its enterprise resource planning system and enabling staff to take immediate action.
Staff are now able to see how the Christmas range is selling against targets and assess day to day stock levels, whether stock is in the right place in the storage chain and if stores are ordering correctly. The application is also used by the managing director to provide an overview of the company’s operations.
In addition to the Christmas Stock Tracker App, COOK plans to expand the use of QlikView across the business. The next step will be the introduction of a number of manufacturing-specific QlikView dashboards that will be implemented to support COOK’s long-term IT strategy.
Jeff Turner, head of IT at COOK, said: “As all of the products we sell are prepared by hand in our kitchen, it’s vital that we’re able to effectively manage our stock. QlikView has provided us with the ability to make incredibly timely decisions about production during one of our key trading periods. It has been a massive leap for the company and we can see no shortage of opportunities for the future.”
