Fujitsu Siemens Computers has developed a compact, quiet and energy-efficient entry-level server and will launch it on 1 April.

The Primergy TX120 S2 is based on Intel Core2 Duo processors and achieves a 25 percent reduction in energy consumption over its predecessor.

As a result it conforms to the Energy Star 4.0 specification, said the company.

The machine isn't much larger than a desktop computer and is quiet enough that it can be placed in an office without its fans causing an annoying disturbance to workers, said Lothar Lechtenberg, a company spokesman who was demonstrating it at Cebit.

The computer will be available in Fujitsu Siemens' EMEA sales area from the beginning of April at prices from €545 (£483). Details for other markets were not available.
