AVG Technologies Tuesday announced plans to buy out Israel-based start-up DroidSecurity for an undisclosed price by year-end.
DroidSecurity was launched last year by CTO Dror Shalev, a former architect at Check Point Software, as well as CEO Eran Pfeffer and Omri Sigelman, vice president of marketing. The start-up's first offering is consumer-oriented antivirus software for Google Android. The company estimates that over 4.5 million Android mobile devices have downloaded DroidSecurity's software.
AVG said the acquisition will enable its Mobile Solutions team to further its goals of providing smartphone security, and DroidSecurity indicated there would be work underway to integrate the two companies' technologies.
