AMD has added to its range of triple-core processors, with three new models aimed at gamers and digital content creators.
The new models are the Phenom X3 8750 Black Edition with a Clock Multiplier Control and tuneable performance, and the energy-efficient Phenom X3 8450e and Phenom X3 8250e.
AMD launched its first triple-core processors in March, when the Phenom chips were billed as an option to mainstream PC buyers who don't want to spend on a quad-core processor but are looking for more performance than a dual-core processor.
"They do fill a slot in the market, providing a balance of price versus power," said Dan Olds, principal analyst with the Gabriel Consulting Group, in an interview with Computerworld. "They'll be speedy enough to handle demanding games and applications, but at a reasonable price."
