On demand TV service YouView has appointed Nick Thexton as its new chief technology officer (CTO).
Thexton, who began his career at Thames Television and Channel 4, will join from Cisco, where he is currently VP and CTO for the technology provider’s Video Software Solutions group. He was SVP and CTO at NDS before the company was acquired by Cisco.
Thexton replaces Chris Bramley, who was CTO at YouView, a BT and TalkTalk joint venture, from 2011. It is not known where Bramley, previously chief architect at BSkyB, will be going next.
According to YouView, Thexton has a strong background in software engineering, and has held a number of R&D and major project delivery roles. He has recently worked on projects including cloud-based video distribution to hybrid devices and the development of dynamic advert insertion technology, which is now used in the Sky ‘Adsmart’ programme’.
Richard Halton, CEO of YouView, said: “[Thexton] brings deep knowledge of the sector and a global perspective to an already well-established technology team.”
Thexton will join YouView on 3 November.
The organisation recently announced a recruitment drive to expand its technology team by over 50 percent. It plans to add more than 50 roles in product design, development and test engineers over the next 12 months.
