Two thirds of UK IT managers have admitted they are not ready for version 3 of the ITIL best practice framework, new research has shown.
But the lack of readiness contrasts with the value IT managers put on ITIL, the research from training provider ILX Group found.
ITIL Version 3 was launched at the end of May to provide an integrated service lifecycle approach to IT service management. The study of 100 IT directors and senior managers found that 61% believed having IT staff who were qualified in ITIL service management gave businesses a competitive edge.
More than six in 10 of those surveyed planned to adopt ITIL Version 3, but only 17% had any set any timescale for doing so – with just 1% planning to implement Version 3 within the next six months.
Barriers to the adoption of the new framework, included lack of understanding of its benefits among company managers and lack of training time and support.
Eddie Kilkelly, operations director at ILX Group, said: “There continues to be a real educational need about ITIL, which is a major factor in UK IT managers' inability to deliver against the new requirements of Version 3."
The findings of the ILX study contrast with other recent research, which found that ITIL adoption was increasing, driven by ISO accreditation and teh launch of ITIL version 3.
