More than six out of 10 small and medium sized businesses do not believe their websites reflect their corporate brand, research has revealed.
The survey of 179 SME attendees at the Internet World event in London this month found that one in 10 SMEs does not even have a website, while more than half of respondents said they did not know how often their sites were updated.
The research by content management systems provider Mediasurface found that 37% of companies updated their websites weekly, with 11% carrying out a monthly update.
More than four in 10 of those surveyed said they were unaware of Web 2.0, the umbrella term for new wave web phenomena such as wikis and blogging. Of those that had heard of Web 2.0, only 37% believed it would have an impact on their business.
Andy Peart, chief marketing officer at Mediasurface, said: “With Web 2.0 increasingly being covered in the media, it was interesting to see that 41% of SMEs surveyed had not heard of it, implying that the message may be getting through to larger businesses but not as efficiently to the smaller business community.”
