Reading council has signed an extension to its outsourcing deal with Northgate Information Solutions to support service transformation and ensure a transfer of expert knowledge back to the local authority.
The council signed the original 10-year deal n October 1999. It covers: IT service desk support, IT procurement services, technology installation and refresh, and change consultancy.
Under the £500,000 extension, Northgate will provide a team of experts to become the council’s ‘iTeam’ to work on service transformation, which is expected to produce efficiency gains and better public services.
The contract has been drawn up to ensure a knowledge and skills transfer to the council through the training of a permanent in-house iTeam, to ensure the future sustainability of the service transformation programme;
Cllr Jo Lovelock, Reading’s lead councillor for corporate resources, said: “Working with Northgate in this innovative partnership model to implement the technical aspects of the ‘Transforming Services 2020’ programme will allow the council to tap into the depth of their local government experience and technology expertise at a fraction of the normal cost.”
She added: “Ultimately, the iTeam will enable Reading to achieve its aim of enhancing and supporting the quality of people’s lives through the effective use of technology.”
