National Grid has signed a seven year outsourcing deal with HP.
Under the deal, the electricity network will create a service management hub to help manage its suppliers.
The agreement includes a service desk for approximately 30,000 National Grid employees in the United Kingdom and northeastern United States.
HP said it will provide a “flexible, enterprise-wide service management solution” to enable National Grid to manage its hybrid technology environment. The idea is to aid National Grid in responding quickly to strategic needs.
HP will establish a multisupplier governance model and create a service-management function. The unit is intended to be a ‘single point of accountability’ across all of National Grid’s technology and services suppliers.
All of National Grid’s IT service management processes and tools will be integrated, and HP will manage supplier service levels.
HP will implement service management processes and policies, as well as software including its Universal Configuration Management Database system and Service Manager 7.
David Lister, chief information officer at National Grid, said that technology “underpins all of our critical business processes” and that the use of IT was vital to the company operating better.
“We’re working with HP to establish a service management hub to manage our multisupplier environment more effectively and to enable us to be more flexible and achieve our cost and service goals.”
