HSBC is to create a major new banking integration platform based on SAP’s NetWeaver technology platform.

The product will streamline and automate the bank’s delivery of banking services to its corporate clients, making bulk payments more secure and making it easier to demonstrate compliance.

The platform will allow HSBC to standardise business -to-bank operations and to reduce the complexity and time needed to associate workflows between its clients. This will simplifying communications for the bank’s corporate services such as account payables, account receivables and reconciliations.

Traditionally each banking service requires a service gateway; which is often a standalone application. Where these applications are linked the interfaces are often clunky with files sometimes manually exported, encrypted and uploaded in proprietary formats.

This can be resource-intensive pose security and operational risks. To overcome this HSBC is using SAP NetWeaver to offer a standard interface between the corporate client’s office enterprise resource planning system and the bank’s back office. For HSBC’s customers, the platform, which will use the ISO 20022 XML format, promises easier access to their banking information.

“SAP is a leading Enterprise Resource Planning solution provider, and with many of our clients worldwide already running on SAP, they were the natural choice for our business needs,” said Marcus Treacher, head of Electronic Banking and E-Commerce, Global Transaction Banking at HSBC.
