Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is improving its budgeting, purchasing and asset management with an enhanced technology platform.
The Hereford & Worcester service has expanded its TechnologyOne software platform with additional budgeting, inventory and stores procurement modules, to help it meet new accounting standards and long term strategic objectives to streamline operational activities.
Hereford & Worcester has more than 800 full time operational staff, including retained firefighters and officers, fire control and support staff, spread across 27 fire stations located within the two counties.
In 2007 the fire and rescue service deployed TechnologyOne for accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable and stock inventory; and asset management last year.
The service has now completed implementation of the TechnologyOne budget module and is about to launch a self-service e-procurement portal for its stores.
“We are devolving budgeting down to stakeholders to link financial movement down to the operational level of the organisation,” said Martin Reohorn, director of finance and assets at Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
"We have shaved weeks off processing and have increased budgeting workflow visibility to key stakeholders.”
The new e-procurement portal will allow the distributed fire station managers to electronically order items for stores while speeding up the approvals process. “It will also help front line staff to address their needs quickly while still retaining control over budgeting,” Reohorn said.
