Government CIO John Suffolk has joined the blogosphere with an account of what it is like holding Whitehall's most high-profile IT role.

Suffolk, who works in the Cabinet Office and is responsible for enabling public service transformation through the strategic deployment of technology, has discussed the Digital Britain report, the future of the IT industry, reports of government CIO council meetings and outlining future plans for a Government Cloud in his blog.

Since June, Suffolk has published entries on his blog on topics like G-Cloud, offering onshore infrastructure, middleware and software as a service to public sector bodies.

He also put his support behind the use of shared service, suggesting that the government extend the concept to IT infrastructures and solutionss.

Whitehall has encouraged civil servants to use blogs and Twitter to interact with the public more in an effort to provide a greater level of understanding on government policy.
