BP is outsourcing its global communications operations to T-Systems and Siemens Enterprise Communications.
In a five year deal, the oil giant has conracted T-Systems, the business solutions arm of Deutsche Telekom, to provide telecommunications services to BP world wide.
Under the deal BP’s business units will be able to chose froma menu of communications services that suit their specific needs, while T-Systems will update BP’s overall global telecoms services network for next generation voice and data services.
The deal, part of a major cost cutting drive, promises to simplify BP’s existing network, reduce the number of suppliers and remove complexity.
Siemens Enterprise Communications will work along side T-Systems to provide a global managed service that supports BP’s voice and audio visual services.
Dana Deasy, BP Group CIO, said the contract “will give BP a significant opportunity to reduce complexity and lower our overall cost base.”
In July BP announced plans to cut £1 billion from costs, when it reported a 57 percent fall in half-year profits.
