AstraZeneca signs £47m deal with Cognizant

Pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca has signed a $95m (£47m) five year business process outsourcing deal with Cognizant.

The outsourcer will provide centralised data management services for AstraZeneca’s global clinical development programmes.

This will include data management planning, clinical study set-up for electronic data capture, medical coding, adverse event reconciliation, clinical data management, and training for the clinical sites and investigators.

Anders Ekblom, Vice President of Clinical Development, AstraZeneca. “Delivering efficiencies through reshaping our business is one of our key strategic priorities.” In addition to the Congizant clinical data deal, the pharmaceutical manufacturer last month signed a £25m global networks contract with BT and last July it signed a £830m contract extension with IBM.

Under the deal, IBM is providing IT infrastructure services to 60 national divisions of AstraZeneca. These services include server and storage hosting, service desks, PC management, networking, support and communications services including email.
