Former Unisys and Nortel veteran Tony J Read has been appointed CEO of the National Skills Academy for IT.

Former Unisys and Nortel veteran Tony J Read has been appointed CEO of the National Skills Academy for IT.

e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology, said the appointment would take up his post on 9 August.

The academy, which officially launches in the autumn, is backed by 15 major employers including Accenture, BT, HP, IBM, Logica, Microsoft and Oracle.

After starting his career with Unisys Read moving to Nortel, he became CIO for Convergence Communication, a high-tech start-up and then moved to CIBC, one of the largest Canadian banks, as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Service for Technology and Operations.

From 2002, he ran his own IT management and project management consulting practice in North America.
