Insurance group Zurich has signed a £200m, six year outsourcing contract for the management of its desktops worldwide.

Zurich Financial Services Group extended an existing agreement with CSC, which will see the IT services firm manage Zurich's electronic Workplace (eWP) desktop services to its businesses in the UK, US, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Canada. The scope includes global service desk, local on-site support, software packaging and distribution to approximately 51,000 users.

Zurich expects the eWP service to provide cost savings and improved performance by standardising the desktop service environment globally, while allowing the firm to tailor services specifically to their business needs.

Michael Paravicini, chief information technology officer at Zurich, said: "CSC already provides support for the development and maintenance of our application software, and our expanded relationship will allow us to provide a more integrated holistic solution for both our eWP and application support needs."

The firm originally signed a seven year deal with CSC in July 2004 for applications development and support services to its businesses in US, UK, Switzerland and Germany.
