Each of us know that sinking feeling we get as we ever more frantically search our pockets for a mislaid passport. The opportunity to experience this feeling is about to get worse with the advent of what I call ‘digital pockets’.

Recently I counted my digital pockets and stopped when I passed a dozen. 'I know I put that photograph somewhere, but was it Flickr, or Picassa or was it on my iPhone or is it in iPhoto? No wait, I put it in the Pictures folder but was the folder on my Mac Air or Mac Mini, or did I use iDisk or DropBox?' And this is the fuss caused by only one photo.

This will take managing. I still wanted a tool to manage my multiple communications channels which has yet to emerge, and now I want one to manage my storage. The first player to solve that one for me in an integrated, hopefully semantically enabled, fashion, with Tagging as an added bonus wins. To be clear, I am not asking for one storage location but a storage manager that works across all media.

I really need an Information Butler. ‘Can you get me the Photograph with Grandma that was taken at Blackpool when Richard was five?’ I can dream.

Oh yes, and I want this to be done securely.
