Virgin Trains is planning to implement a new HR and payroll system to support its 3,100 team members, as its current system isn’t scalable.
Virgin currently operates approximately 330 train services per day, serving 43 stations. Its employees are mostly on a lunar pay cycle, with some casual staff paid on a weekly basis.
A contract notice released this week outlines that whilst Virgin Trains’ current system is able to manage and pay employees, and serves some of its HR information needs, it “lacks the ability to grow outside its current functionality”.
As a result, it is inviting tenders for the provision of a new integrated HR and payroll system.
The contract notice states: “We are seeking solutions for an integrated approach to all our HR systems. This should start with the recruitment process and finish when an individual leaves the business.
“The system should map all of our employees’ potential career, promotions, competencies, training, refreshers, medicals and performance as well as pay them through to leaving the business, either through redundancy, retirement or ill health.”
The contract is worth an estimated £300,000 and is expected to start in January 2014 and run until the end of March in 2017.
