Tesco reported a "successful" Christmas, with strong growth and record sales.
It said sales rose 5.9% year-on-year in the six-week festive shopping period up to January 6, excluding petrol and new store openings.
Non-food also featured highly on the retail giant’s recipe for success, where its internet business grew 30% to more than £150 million and its online groceries business delivered 14 million items in its busiest Christmas shopping week to date.

The results are in line with market expectations, as other retailers like Sainsbury's and John Lewis also reported a stronger Christmas season, and come as the company grew market share and diversified its portfolio into non-food and IT-based offerings.
