Somerfield is reportedly in talks with Indian IT outsourcer Tata Consultancy Services to outsource the supermarket's IT operations.
The deal is said to involve the transfer of some 120 jobs offshore from its Bristol headquarters in response to cost-saving measures and the implementation of a major enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform.
A Somerfield spokesperson told CIO UK that no contracts had been signed, but said she could not comment further.
But a Somerfield IT staff member reportedly told local Bristol newspaper the Western Daily Press the move was all but final. “We are going to lose our jobs. It will put people’s lives in turmoil but the firm will save £2 million a year,” said the source.
It is expected the only staff to remain UK-based out of the 141 IT staff Somerfield currently employ will be at management level.
