Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has hired Viacom's Greg Clayman to manage a new tablet computer venture.

MTV's former executive vice president, digital distribution and business development will head up a dedicated news unit that will provide content specifically for computer tablets and mobile devices, including Apple's iPad.

Murdoch recently described the iPad as "a perfect platform" for up-to-date news content. The Guardian speculates News Corp could invest between $30 to $40m in the venture, which could see new digital only newspapers and magazines launched. The Guardian adds New York Post executive editor Jesse Angelo has been chosen to handle the tablet venture's editorial role.
