Customers attempting to pay for petrol at Tesco’s pumps were blocked from doing so yesterday after a glitch resulted in RBS and NatWest cards being blocked.
Although RBS has experienced a number of high profile technology faults in recent months, the bank was quick to deny that the fault was caused by its systems.
In response to one customer on Twitter, Susan Ashton (@SuesAshton), who said that her pin had been blocked as a result of the problem, RBS (@RBS_help) replied:
“Hi Susan, we are aware that Tesco are having issues with there (sic) terminals, they are aware of this.”
RBS then added: “We have been informed that Tesco are working to fix it. In the meantime we are advising any customers whose pin is locked by these terminals to unlock it at an RBS or NatWest ATM.”
Tesco has since apologised for the fault and has said that it is looking into the problem.
“We are investigating reports of problems affecting some of our pay at pump services. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused,” a Tesco spokesperson told Computerworld UK.
Tesco was also recently questioned about its website security practices, after the retailer sent a customer a password reminder email containing the password in plain text.
