NYSE Euronext has gone live with the first part of a phased implementation of performance monitoring and management tools across its US equities infrastructure.
The exchange operator is now using ITRS Geneos software to monitor the performance of systems underpinning market data delivery, as well as client gateway connectivity and its matching engines. This can all be done using a single dashboard tool to gain real-time visibilty into application performance, allowing the exchange to quickly resolve any problems that might occur.
Introducing the Geneos software will involve NYSE Euronext replacing a number of separate software systems previously used to monitor elements of its equities trading infrastructure.
The robustness of trading infrastructure has come under scrutiny in recent months, following the three-hour halt to trading on the Nasdaq market. The outage of Nasdaq’s Securities Information Processor (SIP) system, following an ‘unprecedented’ influx of data from NYSE’s Arca system, led to calls from regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission for exchanges to take immediate measures to improve trading system safeguards.
NYSE Euronext has also experienced its own trading infrastructure problems in the past twelve months, with a technical glitch causing disruption to trading as securities were moved to its new matching engine.
The Geneos system has now gone live across NYSE Euronext’s US equities trading platforms, and a staged rollout is also expected to see the monitoring software extended to the options trading arm of the business in future.
“ITRS Geneos gives us the ability to actively monitor technology performance across our US exchanges in real-time in an effort to ensure efficient and orderly market operations,” said Bruce Lee, group chief information officer at NYSE Euronext.
“With ITRS Geneos we are able to replace a collection of tools with a single integrated dashboard, making problem diagnosis and corrective action much more efficient and quickly implemented.”
The implementation builds on an ongoing partnership with ITRS and NSYE’s commercial technology division, with Geneos software tools used to monitor 600 servers across NYSE Technologies’ global operations.
