System error: fixing the flaws in Government IT
IT continues to revolutionise the world in which we live at a breathtaking pace, fuelled by the exponential development of computer processing power and the growth of ever faster broadband internet.
Despite spending around £16 billion per year, government IT can often appear to be a long way from this exciting world as it is trapped in an outdated model which attempts to lock project requirements upfront and then proceeds at a glacial pace.
With the appointment of a new Government CIO, a drive towards a more effective and efficient use of IT and a Select Committee inquiry, the Institute for Government is publishing a new report, System Error: Fixing the flaws in government IT.
Our research advocates a radically different approach to managing government IT that emphasises adaptability and flexibility while retaining the benefits of scale and collaboration across government.
