O2 has announced it will be offering three new pay monthly laptop and mobile broadband bundles.
The mobile operator is offering either the Samsung NC10 netbook or the Samsung R510 on a 24-month contract with a 3GB data allowance and unlimited Wi-Fi usage every month, priced at £29.38 per month. Alternatively, for £39.15 per month users can up their data cap to 10GB.
The Samsung NC10 is a 10.2in netbook that weighs just 1.3kg and features the Intel Atom N270 processor. Running Windows XP, the netbook comes with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, wireless and bluetooth connectivity as well as three USB ports, a three-in-one card reader and a built-in 1.3Mp webcam.
The Samsung R510 is one of two laptops being offered with mobile broadband by O2
Purchasers can also choose the Samsung R510, which O2 describes as a performance laptop. Weighing 2.7kg, the 15.4in laptop runs the Celeron Dual Core T3200 processor and has 2GB of RAM and a 160GB SATA hard drive. Loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium, the machine also benefits from a DVD burner and wireless connectivity as well as three USB ports, a three-in-one card reader and a 1.3Mp webcam.
Alternatively, for a one-off payment of £78.29, O2 customers can upgrade the R510 to include the Pentium Dual Core T3400 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB SATA hard drive.
"To date, the subsidised laptop market has received some bad press due to poor equipment and frustrating customer service experiences. O2 is stepping into the market with a promise to turn this around by taking a holistic approach to the product offer," said O2 CEO, Ronan Dunne.
Purchasers of the laptop and mobile broadband bundles will also benefit from McAfee security software and free O2 Laptop Support until 30th June, which will help them get up and running. The cover can then be extended for an additional cost, which has yet to be concerned. O2 customers purchasing the laptops after 1st June will be entitled to 30 days free O2 Laptop Support.
Users will have the option to extend the cover for an additional charge as well as the option to subscribe to the O2 Assistant Software service ensuring their laptop can be fixed remotely. The machines also come with a two-year extended warranty.
The mobile broadband and laptop bundles will be available in-store or online from 27th February.
