IT salaries have risen by 4.3% in London over the last 12 months, according to a report from a recruitment firm.

Specialist IT recruitment agency CV Screen released the data, which was obtained from the analysis of advertisements over the last three months of 2007 in the IT sector.

The analysis of more than 4,000 IT positions found that salaries had increased by 4.3% over the last 12 months.

This compared to the 3.4% increase in the South East region, revealed in a report last week.

The average permanent IT salary in London now stands at £38,577, according to CV Screen’s account manager for London, Alex Lawson, who put together the survey.

The report on the South East region, which looked at jobs in Surrey, Kent, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Sussex, concluded that the average IT salary in the region is £33,513.

"There is obviously a premium attributed to working in London and the survey shows that salaries are 15% higher than those in the rest of the South East region," said Lawson.

Lawson added that despite predictions the next 12 months will be more testing, "the early signs are that the IT jobs market is holding up well.”
