Common cyber security tools such as unified threat management systems, next generation firewalls and antivirus software are often too late to prevent breaches and can only clean up the crime scene.

Unlike antivirus software that reacts to exploitations and mitigates the damage after an attack, offensive cyber security takes a proactive approach. This model finds holes in your defences to patch them up before a strike break throughs.

One of the leading exponents of the method is cyber security expert Gary Miliefsky, who was a founding member of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

At Cloudsec 2017 in London he described his strategy for protecting your organisation from cyber attacks by turning defence into attack.
