IBM Watson was developed as a research project that first gained fame for beating human contestants at US TV show Jeopardy, but the cognitive computing platform is now being used in a wide array of products and services, from car navigation apps to personalised World Cup highlights. 

The majority of companies using Watson are based in the US, but the UK is the second biggest market for the system, according to marketing intelligence company iDatalabs.
