FatBatt 1.2.4

Get the best possible battery life from your laptop

Step away from a power source when you’re using your laptop and you immediately have to start thinking about how long your battery is going to last. If you’re in a coffee shop or somewhere similar, there is a chance that you’ll be able to plug in and get charged up, but this is certainly not always the case.

Battery life can vary massively from one laptop to another, but there are few people who would not like to be able to squeeze a little more juice out of their machine. The programs you have running at any given time can be massive drain on battery life. If FatBatt detects that a particular application is being a resource hog, it will be flagged up and highlighted as something that you might want to close down.

Of course, there will be times when you want to improve performance rather than just maximizing battery life. This can be done with a quick click to switch between ‘home’ and ‘away’ modes. In the former, it is assumed that you are near a source of power and will be able to plug in when necessary so the screen will be run at full brightness and the CPU at full speed.

When you are ‘away’ your screen will be dimmed and your processor throttled to help make your battery last a little longer. You can tweak just how much throttling and dimming so you can strike a balance between battery life and ease of use.

A constantly update graph lets you see just how much longer you can expect you battery to last if you continue to use it in the way you currently are. This enables you to make decisions about the tasks you perform as well as making it easy to see what difference things like screen dimming and lowering volume have.

There is also a paid for version of the program available which enables you to take things further and squeeze even more life from your battery. This costs just $14.99 and eliminates the time restrictions that are to be found in the free edition.
