McAfee Free Antivirus beta

A simple lightweight antivirus tool

McAfee Free Antivirus is an early version of a very simple antivirus tool.

Installing the package equips your PC with real-time antivirus protection, and - optionally - McAfee WebAdvisor for basic web browsing protection.

There's no on-demand scanning at all, although a greyed-out "Scan Now" button suggests we'll get that soon.

The interface is extremely basic. Right-clicking an icon in your system displays a "disable real-time scanning" option, an "Open" option displays your system status, and apart from a few small extras - a log, a self-protect option - that's it.

McAfee Free Antivirus has very few features, and it doesn't like to run alongside other security tools (it wouldn't install until we removed our existing suite). But a good free product may help to get the company more attention, and we'll be interested to see how it develops.
