Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2014 is the latest edition of Bitdefender's capable antivirus engine.
As before, the core antivirus protection is just the start. You also get warnings of dangerous sites in your search engine results; strong protection for online banking and e-shopping sites; a social networking filter which traps dangerous links in your Facebook and Twitter feeds; a USB drive immuniser, identity theft and privacy protection, and more.
New features this time start with what Bitdefender are calling their Photon technology, which they claim is "an innovative antivirus technology that accelerates scanning speed by gradually adapting to your PC". We're not yet sure how much extra performance this might offer, but any extra speed gains are fine by us.
Perhaps the most significant practical addition to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2014 is the Wallet, a capable password manager which manages both your website and application logons.
And a weekly Security Report sums up what's happened in the past seven days, highlights anything you need to do, tells you about unused modules, and more.
What hasn't really changed is the interface, which looks more or less as it did in last year's edition. And that's just fine by us, because for the most part it works well and is very easy to use.
What's new in build 17.28?
- new Firewall drivers
- improved Anti-Theft lock mechanism
- performance update for Safebox
- added new detection for latest versions of Mozilla Firefox in Vulnerability scanner
- other improvements
There's nothing revolutionary here, but Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2014 successfully builds on its previous incarnation, offering better performance and a useful password manager. Give it a try.
