Adobe CreatePDF 1.0.0

Create PDF files from a number of document types in iOS

The PDF file is one of the most commonly used file format that exists, and this is largely down to the fact that a document created on one computer will look exactly the same on another. The format can be viewed natively in iOS and there are numerous app available that provide additional viewing options if you take a browse through the App Store.

Adobe CreatePDF can be used to convert Microsoft Office and other office files, as well as various image formats, to PDFs. Documents that contain images, links and footnotes will have their full content preserved. The full list of supported formats is Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop images and InDesign files, as well as Open Office and StarOffice documents and JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF and TIFF images.

Notably by its absence, is support for iWorks files, and this is a serious omission, especially considering Apple’s high profile launch of Pages and Numbers for iOS. The ability to convert files to PDF is down to whether a particular file type can be opened in CreatePDF. The above list is the complete list of supported formats, so if you want to convert other files, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Limited file support coupled with the fact Adobe CreatePDF lacks built in PDF viewing and editing means that the app is not only somewhat basic, it is also rather expensive. The app is a universal app that can be installed on both iPhones and iPads. Providing you have an iPhone 3GS or newer you can create PDF files away from your desk, providing you want to work with one of the supported file formats.

There’s no denying that Adobe CreatePDF could be a capable app, it’s just far too expensive for what it is.
