Google Chrome 6.0.472.62

Google's flagship browser gets simpler, faster, and adds new form-filling features

Google has released the stable version of Chrome 6, and while at first glance it seems much like previous incarnations of the browser, if you look closely then there are some interesting changes to explore.

This latest version now provides access to AutoFill, for instance, a feature that makes it easier to complete web forms. Click Options > Personal Stuff > AutoFill Options and you can add addresses or credit card numbers, and these may be entered into forms later in just a few clicks.

Chrome's Sync feature (Options > Personal Stuff > Sync) has been expanded, too, and is now able to synchronise your bookmarks, preferences, themes, extensions and AutoFill data (with the exception of credit card numbers) across all your Chrome installations, through your Google account.

The interface has seen a few tweaks. The navigation buttons now look more like icons, and all options are now presented in just one menu, making the browser appear simpler and more streamlined than ever.

Google say this version of Chrome performs 15% faster in key benchmarks like SunSpider, and sure enough, when we tested the program it effortlessly outpaced both IE and Firefox.

Chrome's big plus point has always been its performance, and this version is faster still. The new form filling and synchronisation features are useful, too, so if you're a fan of the browser then this is definitely worth a look.
